Bettesworth Scott (Pty) Ltd is based in Cape Town but we work throughout South Africa. Our portfolio past and present includes multi-million Rand projects such as photovoltaic solar plants, numerous shopping centres, office blocks, residential and industrial estates, tourist accommodation, etc. Our previous and existing clients include large international corporations such as Enel (Italy), Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and well-established local developers such as Swish Properties, Prema Raciti Construction, Frazzitta Property Holdings, Asrin, Gorrie & Findlay, Seaboard Property Developers and Aldo Cannone Construction to name but a few. Other notable clients include Lagoon Beach Hotel, Ruslamere Hotel, Aquila Game Lodge, Atlantic Beach Estate, De Zalze Golf Estate and the City of Cape Town. The firm is supported by state-of-the-art software systems for Word Processing, Database Management, Computer Aided Draughting and GIS.
The three directors (and shareholders) of Bettesworth Scott (Pty) Ltd, David Bettesworth, Martin Scott and Isalde du Toit first met whilst working together as planning professionals in the Blaauwberg District Office of the City of Cape Town in the late 1990’s. David resigned in 2007, Martin in 2008 and Isalde in 2008 to pursue careers in the private sector. After sharing offices and working in close collaboration for many years, Bettesworth Scott (Pty) Ltd was formed through the merger of ILALI Town & Regional Planners and David Bettesworth Town & Regional Planners in 2019. Now formally back together as one team, David, Martin and Isalde bring over 65 years of public and private sector planning and built environment experience to the table.
Directors:
David Bettesworth is a professional planner with 25 years’ experience. David holds a Master of City and Regional Planning degree from the University of Cape Town and is registered as a Professional Planner with the South African Council for Planners. David is also a member of the South African Planning Institute and the firm is a member of South African Association of Consulting Professional Planners (South), of which David currently is Chairman. After graduating, David worked for a town and regional planning consultancy. From 1999 until May 2006, David worked for the City of Cape Town as a Senior Town and Regional Planner. Extensive experience was gained in the full range of municipal planning matters. In mid-2006 David left the City of Cape Town to form David Bettesworth Town and Regional Planners, which in 2019 merged with ILALI Town and Regional Planners to form Bettesworth Scott (Pty) Ltd in 2019.
Martin Scott is a professional planner with 23 years’ experience in the public and private sectors. Martin holds a degree in Town and Regional Planning, is registered as a Professional Planner with the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN) and is a member of the South African Planning Institute (SAPI). Martin resigned as Senior Professional Officer from the City of Cape Town after 12 years of service to start ILALI Town and Regional Planners in 2008. After 11 successful years ILALI was merged into Bettesworth Scott (Pty) Ltd in 2019. Martin is an experienced urban development facilitator with a strong background in all aspects of human settlement policy and design, project management, policy formulation, spatial planning and land use management.
Isalde du Toit is a professional planner with 26 years professional experience. Isalde holds a B.Art. et Scien. (Town and Regional Planning) degree from the University of the North West, is registered as a Professional Planner with the South African Council for Planners and is a member of SAPI. After graduating Isalde worked for the National Department of Land Affairs until 1997 before moving to the Western Cape Provincial Government. During this period, she gained extensive experience in national and provincial policy formulation as well as handling the full range of land use management functions. In 1999 Isalde joined the City of Cape Town as a Town Planner and later in the capacity of a Senior Town and Regional Planner experience was gained in the full range of municipal planning matters. In 2008 Isalde left the City of Cape Town to join David Bettesworth Town and Regional Planners.
